AUDIOLOGY

Our Core Services

  • An in-depth assessment that determines the type and degree of hearing/hearing loss. This allows the audiologist to provide an appropriate and individualized hearing management plan.

  • If earwax builds up in the ear canal and the patient experiences a blocked sensation, itchiness, hearing loss or pain, the earwax will need to be removed. Cotton buds are NOT RECOMMENDED to remove wax, but why? Because cotton buds can pierce the eardrum or further impact the wax and cause serious damage.

We remove earwax in a SAFE & COMFORTABLE manner, using specialised curettes or an irrigation system.

  • Based on the patient’s hearing test/audiogram results, budget and aesthetic preference, they are encouraged to choose from a pre-selected range of hearing aid options. The audiologist measures the ear and takes earmoulds where necessary to ensure an excellent fit.

  • Hearing aids are programmed according to a patient’s specific hearing requirement, using specialised software. This process allows the patient to gain maximum benefit from their hearing aids.

  • Patients receive 2 FREE follow-up sessions for hearing aids fitted by FISTA. Adjusting to hearing aids can be a dynamic experience, and these sessions allow for adjustments to be made to the hearing aids as per the patient’s requirements.

  • Custom-made earplugs to fit your ears for a specific purpose. These products are high-quality and cost-effective as they are not required to be replaced.

    • Sleep Plugs

    • Shooting Plugs

    • Swim Plugs

  • Tinnitus is a ringing/buzzing sound which occurs in the ear and may cause a disruption to your daily life, affecting hearing as well as balance. We assess the type and severity of tinnitus and provide management solutions.

  • A 15-minute consultation and the first step in detecting hearing loss. These results may warrant further diagnostic testing in order to determine the presence or absence of a hearing loss.

  • A non-invasive hearing test done shortly after birth. An Oto-Acoustic Emission (OAE) device is used to assess the newborn baby's hearing status. It is imperative that every newborn baby have a hearing screening done - as babies rely on hearing to develop verbal communication.

  • Screening the hearing of young children annually is vital to their development. School-based hearing screenings are conducted to detect childhood hearing loss and provide early intervention, in order to limit academic difficulties.

This service may be provided on-site (at schools) or alternatively, individual appointments can be booked directly with FISTA.

  • Detecting subtle or obvious hearing loss in adults allows for appropriate management. The aim is to minimise the impact of hearing loss, save years of frustration due to hearing loss, and improve overall quality of life.
